History

Glassflake Ltd was formed in 1987 as a result of extensive research and development to create a technically better type of glass flake than the one available in the marketplace at that time specifically for the industrial coatings market. Substantial innovations in production and glass technology were required to achieve these products. From these foundations Glassflake Ltd. introduced glass flakes with lower average thicknesses and significantly lower thickness deviations as well as improved glass compositions to further improve properties imparted by glass flakes.

Our focus is continuous and market leading innovation; throughout our history we have developed new and novel glass flake products, including glass flake that is completely planar and tightly controlled thickness below 2 microns which is critical for use as a pigment substrate, in addition through innovation we have developed production techniques to enable the manufacture of ultra-thin glass flakes with thicknesses as low as 100nm expanding the application of glass flake products.

Our Moonshine® products are based on these technologies, using further coating process to give interesting effect pigments on unique glass based substrates.
